We select high-quality raw material seeds and extract them through a low-temperature cold pressing process to maximize the natural active ingredients’ retention, including vitamin E, phytosterols, and natural antioxidant components. For example, its natural castor oil acid content can be maintained at over 85%.

Our castor oil products can repair damaged hair and moisturize the skin and scalp. You can use castor oil alone or combine it with other essential oils or active ingredients to build a product system with different skin sensations and efficacy positioning, such as light care, repair, or highly nourishing formulas.

WJOIL provides you with batch-identical products, which support a complete set of organic certifications, COA, and SDS compliance documents. And moreover, we also offer free reference for additional ratios and compounding optimization plans.

cleansing-and-foam-stability
Cleansing & Foam Stability

You can use our castor oil as a functional additive oil. It can effectively enhance the foam’s fineness and stability. So it is common in both cold soap-making and hot soap-making systems.

High Keratin Affinity & Deep Lipid Compatibility

Most ordinary vegetable oils merely form a physical protective film on the surface, which can easily leave the consumer’s hair or skin feeling heavy and greasy, or give a greasy sensation.

However, our castor oil will penetrate the hair cuticle gaps and the skin keratin gaps, truly bringing repair and nutrition to the skin’s internal structure.

Our castor oil contains a higher proportion of ricinoleic acid and its molecular structure naturally contains hydroxyl polar groups. So it can give you a stronger polarity compatibility and adhesion ability compared to other oils. Under the same addition ratio, it shows superior oil-phase compatibility and uniform distribution in hair care and nourishing skincare formulations. This allows you to achieve a more pleasant texture while optimising the formulation structure and cost.

What Are the Differences Between Cold Pressed Castor Oil and Ordinary Pressed Castor Oil?

Their main difference is the production temperature and the degree of active ingredients retention.

During the mechanical pressing and friction processes, the ordinary pressed castor oil is typically subjected to high temperatures of 60–99°C (140–210°F). The high temperatures may affect some of the natural active ingredients in castor oil, which will lower its performance consistency in high-end skincare and haircare formulations.

In contrast, our cold-pressed castor oil is extracted at a temperature below approximately 50°C (122°F) and is processed without high-temperature intervention. It can better retain natural antioxidant components, fatty acid structures, and the original plant characteristics for you. It is more suitable for raw material bases for high-end and Clean Beauty positioning.

Is Castor Oil Prone to Oxidation and Deterioration?

Compared to high unsaturated fatty acid vegetable oils such as grape seed oil and flaxseed oil, our castor oil gives you better oxidation stability. Its naturally high content of ricinoleic acid structure makes it less likely to undergo rapid spoilage, develop odors or show significant color changes during long-term storage. Under sealed, protected from light and cool storage conditions, their shelf life usually ranges from 24 to 36 months.

To further enhance product stability, it is recommended to:

  • Use dark packaging containers.
  • Avoid long-term high-temperature storage.
  • Reduce repeated exposure to air.
  • When necessary, add a natural vitamin E antioxidant system.
Is Castor Oil Suitable for Oily Skin and Acne-Prone Product Development?

Castor oil is generally considered to pose a moderate risk of causing breakouts, though tolerance varies depending on skin type.

However, it is not usually recommended for you to use it alone in high concentrations when formulated for oily or acne-prone skin, or in the developing lightweight skincare products. Instead, it is more common to blend with lightweight plant oils such as jojoba oil, squalane or grape seed oil to show a better texture and absorption. Many facial care oils, scalp serums and functional skincare products currently available on the market utilise castor oil in low concentrations, blended with other plant oils.

Which Ingredients Can Castor Oil Be Combined With?

In the actual formulation system, you can stably compound our castor oil with different vegetable oils and essential oil systems:

  • Single-note essential oil: Rosemary essential oil, lavender essential oil, tea tree essential oil. These are commonly used in scalp care products, soothing and restorative balms, and massage oils;
  • Base oil combinations: Jojoba oil, squalane, grape seed oil, argan oil, coconut oil. These lightweight oils help counteract the heavy viscosity of castor oil.
What Is the Recommended Addition Ratio of Castor Oil?

The amount of castor oil to be added varies depending on different product formulations.

The common reference ranges are as follows:

  • Cold soap / Hot soap: 10%–30%.
  • Hair care oil: 5%–30%.
  • Hair scalp essence: 3%–15%.
  • Lash growth liquid: 5%–20%.
  • Lip balm: 2%–10%.
  • Body care oil: 2%–15%.
  • Lotion and cream: 2%–5%.

It should be noted that you still test the actual addition ratio for stability in combination with the target skin sensation, product positioning, regulatory requirements, and the overall formulation system. For initial development projects, we usually recommend starting with a medium to low addition amount for sample testing and then making adjustments based on your final results.

What Are the Precautions When Using Castor Oil?

It is suggested for you to conduct stability tests and skin patch tests before the official launch. Because there is a small number of sensitive individuals may have individual differences in reactions to plant oils.

At the same time, our castor oil is mainly applied in cosmetics and personal care development. If your product involves special markets, special populations, or projects with high regulatory requirements, please carry out additional compliance assessment and safety tests according to the target market regulations.

In addition, this raw material is generally not recommended for oral use during pregnancy. In the home care application, it is also necessary to pay attention to avoiding the risk of pets accidentally eating it. So you would better make corresponding prompts in the label or instructions.
