Why Choose WJOIL as Your Steam-distilled Essential Oil Supplier

Original Production Site Raw Materials

Our essential oil raw materials are pulled straight from key production zones like Provence in France (where the lavender comes from), Bulgaria (where roses are famously rooted), and Australia (tea trees by origin). The starting point can be tracked precisely, and the overall scent profile plus composition stays steadier, even when everything gets moved around a bit.

Precise Control of Distillation Parameters

After conducting numerous tests and making necessary corrections, we have determined that separate optimal distillation parameters should be set for each plant category. Ensure that our oil extraction rate and aroma retention rate can both reach the optimal level.

Cold-pressed vs. Steam-distilled Essential Oil: How to Choose?

In general, cold pressing is more often used for citrus fruit raw materials, since it can help keep that fresh fruit aroma pretty well. Still, there’s the other side of it… You know, it’s kind of hard to deal with the natural furanocoumarins inside the fruit peels, and that creates some light sensitivity risk.

On the other hand, steam distillation tends to work across a broader range. It doesn’t leave solvent residues, it gives more stable constituents, and the batch-to-batch results are strong and consistent.

If your formulation is meant for daytime use or if you have higher safety requirements for the ingredients, then steam distillation feels like the safer, more reliable option overall.

Hydro Distillation vs Steam Distillation: What is the Difference?

The core difference between the two is mostly about how the plant materials actually get in touch with water. In steam distillation,  the plant stuff is not put directly into water. Because of that, the temperature ends up easier to manage, so it’s typically used for most flower essential oils.

Water distillation means the materials are heated while they’re directly immersed in water, which is often better for delicate and easily harmed items, like rose petals. As a buyer, you can also learn about it and choose better process requirements for your essential oil.

Is the Frankincense Essential Oil Extracted Through Steam Distillation?

Yeah. Frankincense resin has these volatile terpene compounds in it, and when you do steam distillation, it can sort out those parts pretty well, which then gives you an essential oil with a cleaner scent and the complete active components.

Some frankincense on the WJOIL is made in a CO2 supercritical extraction version. That one tends to have a broader component spread, and the aroma comes out closer to the original resin.

Both routes do have their own focus points, and picking between them really should depend on how you position your product and what target efficacy you want. If you need any further information, please feel free to contact us.

Is Steam-distilled Essential Oil Safe for the Skin?

Overall, it is pretty safe. Most of our steam-distilled essential oils are bought for skin contact, but “safety” has two main prerequisites: concentration and formulation. With steam-distilled essential oils, you usually end up with no solvent residues, and from an extraction point of view, it is one of the cleaner options for skin use.

So, you have to dilute it, following the IFRA standards for the intended use.

Which is Better, Steam Distillation Oil or Solvent Extraction Oil?

This depends on the focus of your product. If you plan to produce products like skin care, aromatherapy, and daily care, then steam-distilled essential oils are more suitable since they’re higher in purity and also free of chemical residues. The essential oil extracted in this way is gentler and safer for the skin.

But if your goal is to mirror the natural scent of plants as much as possible, say for perfumes where the aroma needs to be really accurate, then solvent extraction can catch those aroma molecules that would normally be lost during steam distillation. Its fragrance feels more rounded and richer, and it’s more like the actual smell of the plants.

Can All Essential Oils Be Extracted Using the Steam Distillation Method?

Not all raw materials are truly suitable for steam distillation. With citrus peels, cold pressing is usually the better route since it keeps the aroma in a more natural way. And then you have some floral raw materials like jasmine and ylang, they can lose a significant amount of aroma when they’re pushed through high-temperature distillation, so it’s often smarter to switch toward solvent extraction or even cold absorption type methods.

As for us, as suppliers, we will suggest the extraction process that fits each raw material’s traits. If you have any ideas or a finalized plan, you can also communicate with us to discuss and come up with a solution together.
